Bring in the new year dancing with BODYTRAFFIC and Seattle-based GUEST ARTIST KATE WALLICH! This workshop is designed for intermediate, advanced, and professional dancers age 18 and over. 

Each day will consist of a 2-hour technique class with BODYTRAFFIC’s Co-Director Lillian Barbeito, followed by repertory and creation with The YC’s Artistic Director Kate Wallich.

AUDITION for YC: Kate Wallich seeks dancers for the 2018/2019 season. Dancers who would like to utilize the WINTER WORKSHOP as an audition for The YC should indicate as such in their letter of interest. Please include a list of any and all existing obligations in 2018.

10:00 – 11:30 DANCE CHURCH (open to the community– $20 drop-in fee)

Dance Church™ is an all abilities movement class that offers a fun, nonexclusive approach to dancing. Designed for people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds and identities, Dance Church™ is a communal space for everyone who wants to move their body.No previous training is required, but open-mindedness is a prerequisite.

Kate guides this 90 min class in a series of movement cues, accompanied by a curated playlist of multi-genre pop music.  Listen, explore, laugh and sweat (a lot) together. The mirrors are covered, the lighting is dim and the music is loud. The format is open, there is no front. This is the dance party you wish you had last night.

Dance Church™ was created by Kate Wallich in 2010. Kate Wallich 501(c)(3) is an non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating a community of artists and audience members through the creation and presentation of designed dance-based experiences directed by choreographer and educator Kate Wallich.

Wear clothes that you can sweat in, and take the class in bare feet, dance shoes, or socks.

Full and partial scholarships available. To be considered for financial aid, please send two letters of recommendation and a brief statement of financial need and proof of age.

*BODYTRAFFIC does not offer housing during the Winter Workshop. Suggestions for accommodations are available upon request and included in the Welcome Packet.




Lillian Barbeito is the Co‐Director of BODYTRAFFIC. She has a BFA from The Juilliard School where she studied on a 4 year, full-tuition scholarship awarded by Tomorrow’s Leaders of America. As a dancer, Lillian has had an extensive performance career that took her to Europe, New York, and then finally to Los Angeles, where she founded BODYTRAFFIC with Tina Berkett. She has taught internationally for organizations such as CALARTS, Idyllwild Arts Academy, L’Artere in Quebec City, Loyola Marymount University, Lyon Opera Ballet, Northwest Dance Project, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Southland Ballet Academy, The Wooden Floor, UCLA’s department of World Arts and Cultures and Westside Academy of Dance. Lillian is one of 28 teachers in the world who is certified to teach Anouk van Dijk’s groundbreaking Countertechnique. She has choreographed over 50 works for high schools, universities, competitions, and regional ballet companies and professional modern dance companies throughout the US and Canada. Lillian is deeply grateful to her family, especially Grant, Oliver, and Forest, for their love and support.


Kate Wallich is a Seattle-based choreographer, director, and educator – named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2015. She received her training from Interlochen Arts Academy and holds a BFA in Dance Magna Cum Laude from Cornish College of the Arts. Kate’s work has been commissioned and presented nationally and internationally by leading dance companies, performance institutions, universities and galleries including On the Boards, Velocity Dance Center, Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Whim W’Him, RAWdance, The Joyce Theater, Northwest Dance Project, University of Utah, Springboard Danse Montreal, Toes For Dance, The Frye Art Museum and Henry Art Gallery among others. She was a Visiting Artist at University of Washington, University of Oregon, Cornish College of the Arts, and University of Utah. She has created three evening-length works with The YC: Super Eagle (Velocity Dance Center, 2014), Splurge Land (On the Boards, 2015) and Industrial Ballet(Velocity Dance Center/Seattle Theater Group, 2016) in addition to short-form site-specific works On Perspective (Seattle Art Museum/Olympic Sculpture Park 2014), Tennis Court Ballet (Rauschenberg Residency, 2015), Peach Lawn Chair (Seattle Rooftop, 2016) and Sauna Dance With Speedboat (Portage Bay Reach, 2017). Kate has received awards, grants, and support from 4Culture, Artist Trust, The Glenn H. Kawasaki Foundation, The Rauschenberg Residency, MANA Contemporary, Seattle Magazine’s “Spotlight Artist Award” and NCCAkron’s Dancing Laboratory. As a performer, Kate has worked with Zoe Scofield, Danielle Agami and KT Niehoff. Kate is among Seattle’s top contemporary dance teachers, leading packed classes through her own brand of movement technique including her popular community-focused class Dance Church.


Kate Wallich and The YC would like to invite you to an open audition workshop at BODYTRAFFIC’s Winter Workshop January 2 – 5, 2018 in LA. Open to female, non-binary and male dancers.


The position pays $750 USD per week with additional fees for performance. This is a non-union position without benefits. Will involve performance of repertory and touring. Available to US citizens, Green Card Holders and those that can apply for a Visa. No physical restrictions. Contract begins 01 February 2018.


This position pays a rate of $15 USD per hour plus performance fees and class fellowships. Entails the performance of new creations and rep material. This is a non-union position without benefits. Available to US Citizens and Green Card Holders. No physical restrictions. Contract begins 01 February 2018.


The YC was founded by Kate Wallich in 2010 with co-founder Lavinia Vago. The YC is comprised of artists who collaborate on new works under the direction of Kate Wallich.

The YC has presented three evening length works, Super Eagle at Velocity Dance Center in 2014, Splurge Land at On the Boards in 2015 and Industrial Ballet at The Moore Theatre in 2016. The YC is currently working on a fourth evening length work Dream Dances which will premiere at On the Boards in Seattle in December 2017. In addition to full length stage shows, The YC has collaborated on film, photographic, and site specific projects.

The YC also works extensively with YC2 during creative sessions. Members of The YC are invited to teach, mentor, choreograph and work as rehearsal directors, supporting and leading YC2 through creative processes.



YC2 was founded by Kate Wallich in January 2017 in partnership with Velocity Dance Center as a platform for dancers to exercise artistic agency while receiving consistent training, rehearsal and performance opportunities. YC2 empowers dancers to thrive artistically in any professional situation and is the company in residency at Velocity Dance Center. Dancers of YC2 work with Kate and artists from The YC to develop new work during creative work sessions and also benefit from Velocity’s ongoing programming.

Since its inception in January, YC2 has supported 11 dancers, providing class fellowships for 250+ hours of training in the studio and 140 hours of paid rehearsal time. Through YC2, Studio Kate Wallich has been able to support and employ five educators and teachers, two rehearsal assistants, and two choreographers through the creation of four new works.

YC2 is supported by Velocity Dance Center through their Artist in Residence and Anchor Tenant programs. Studio Kate Wallich also receives major underwriting for YC2 from Case van Rij.
