2020 Winter Workshop/Company Audition **AT CAPACITY**

December 30, 2019 - January 3, 2020

The Winter Workshop is now at capacity. We are still accepting applications for the waitlist. 

Bring in the new year dancing with BODYTRAFFIC! This workshop is designed for advanced and professional dancers age 16 and over. Each day consists of technique,  repertory, and the creative process.


BODYTRAFFIC seeks versatile, experienced dancers with exceptional ballet technique, partnering, and improvisation skills for future opportunities. Candidates will work closely with BODYTRAFFIC Co-Artistic Director Lillian Barbeito and company members Monday through Friday. Select dancers who are eligible for employment will be invited to a callback on Saturday, January 4 from 10am-4pm. Dancers will be notified on or before Friday, January 3rd of their callback status.


Monday, December 30  – Friday, January 3 (Callback January 4)

9:30-11:30am- Countertechnique or Progressive Ballet with Lillian Barbeito

11:30am-1:30pm- BODYTRAFFIC Repertory with Haley Heckethorne

2:30-5:00pm- Creative Session with Jamal White

Step 3: Email VIDEO statement of interest (talk to the camera and please clarify if you would like to have the workshop serve as an audition) along with supporting materials such as headshot, body shot, resume, biography, and video links to: Lillian@bodytraffic.com. Video length and content is not specified, indicating how the applicant would like to be perceived.

There is no deadline for submissions. Applications will be accepted until the Winter Workshop/Audition is at capacity.  We will post on our website when it is full and we are no longer accepting applications.




$200 | Selected participants are required to submit a non-refundable security deposit in order to hold their space.


Dancers who apply and are selected to participate in the entire program will receive a $100 discount if tuition is paid in full on or before November 15, 2019.


Full-tuition and partial-tuition scholarships are available for exceptional contemporary dancers between the ages of 16 and 26. To be considered for a scholarship, send the following along with your application: video statement of financial need, proof of age, and 2 letters of recommendation. Scholarship applications are due on or before December 1, 2019. Scholarship applicants will be notified of financial aid status on or before December 7, 2019.


We are offering one intern/work-study position.  A responsible dancer who has a good camera, ability to upload photos daily, clean driving record, up-to-date vehicle registration and insurance with a comfortable, reliable car can participate in the Winter Workshop in exchange for services. Responsibilities include transporting artists, light cleaning duties, and doing miscellaneous tasks including photography. Due to the nature of this position, the selected intern/work-study person may miss some of the workshop and/or have truncated breaks. A Welcome Packet will be emailed to all registered participants at the beginning of December.


Participants are responsible for their own accommodations during the Winter Workshop. A comprehensive list of housing resources is included in the Welcome Packet and available upon request.




Co-Director of BODYTRAFFIC. Lillian is a native of Santa Fe, New Mexico where she trained with the Santa Fe Dance Foundation and worked with The Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Southwest Ballet and the Santa Fe Opera. She received a BFA from The Juilliard School where she studied on a 4 year, full-tuition scholarship awarded by Tomorrow’s Leaders of America. As a dancer, Lillian had an extensive performance career that took her to Europe, New York, and then finally to Los Angeles, where she founded BODYTRAFFIC with Tina Berkett. She has taught internationally for organizations such as CalArts, Idyllwild Arts Academy, L’Artere and L’ecole de Danse in Quebec City, Lyon Opera Ballet, Northwest Dance Project, San FranciscoConservatory of Dance, Southland Ballet Academy, The Wooden Floor, and UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures. Lillian is one of 28 teachers in the world who is certified to teach Anouk van Dijk’s groundbreaking Countertechnique. She has choreographed over 50 works for high schools, universities, competitions, regional ballet companies, and professional modern dance companies throughout the US and Canada. She is currently on faculty at Loyola Marymount University.


Haley was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She trained at Bunker Dance Center as well as at Las Vegas Academy. In 2013 she moved to Vancouver, Canada to join the Arts Umbrella dance diploma program under the direction of Artemis Gordon. While there, she performed works by Crystal Pite, Sharon Eyal, Cayetano Soto, Lesley Telford, and Nacho Duato. Haley participated in Crystal Pite’s young choreographers’ program and received an emerging artist scholarship from RBC’s Canada Council. In 2016 she joined Pite’s Kidd Pivot as an apprentice and has also performed with Peter Chu’s Chuthis. Haley joined BODYTRAFFIC in 2018.


Jamal was raised in Atlanta, GA and began his training at Dance Makers of Atlanta under the direction of Denise and Lynise Heard. He studied as a scholarship student at Virginia School of the Arts and trained in intensive programs at Kirov Academy of Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and London Contemporary Dance School. In 2011, Jamal received a B.F.A. in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University, where he performed works by Arthur Mitchell, George Balanchine, Pascal Rioult, Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, and Martha Graham. He has also performed in Rasta Thomas’ Rock the Ballet, Missouri Ballet Theater, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and Collage Dance Collective. Jamal was a dancer for Ailey II prior to joining BODYTRAFFIC. Jamal joined BODYTRAFFIC in 2017.
