ABOUT THE WORK

Set against the vibrant backdrop of Ernie Barnes’s iconic depictions of life, Juel D. Lane’s new work pays tribute to his legacy. Lane weaves ensemble and partner work that mirrors the narratives and energy of Barnes’s art, including the enigmatic woman in the yellow dress who appears in his paintings. With movements guided by ancestral rhythms, the work emphasizes resilience and serves as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity.
